East End Fishing Beach, St. George Island State Park

7.2· Beach· Franklin County, FL

East End is the wild far tip of St. George Island State Park, a long walk or permitted drive past the end of the paved road to a sandy cape beside East Pass. The state park describes it as a fishing beach, closed to swimming because the deep water and strong currents are dangerous, and local reports call it one of the most popular fishing areas on the Forgotten Coast. Spring and fall bring runs of Spanish mackerel and pompano, with redfish on the sandbars year round, plus whiting, trout and flounder. Fish the falling tide with live bait, cut mullet or a gold spoon. There are no facilities out here, no shade and a long way back: carry water and tell someone where you are.
