St. Joseph Peninsula State Park Bayside Fishing

7.0· Beach· Gulf County, FL

The bay side of St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, around the Eagle Harbor picnic area and boat ramp, is the quiet, calm-water half of the park, facing St. Joseph Bay instead of the Gulf. Anglers wade the sand and seagrass flats along the shore with light spinning gear, chasing spotted seatrout and redfish, with flounder, ladyfish and bluefish mixed in as the seasons turn. Early morning and evening are best, and a moving tide pushes fish onto the shallows. Live shrimp under a popping cork, soft plastics and topwater plugs all work. The state park lists fishing among its activities and the bay side is reached by the park road, with dirt parking near the ramp and restrooms at the picnic area. Wear water shoes for stingrays and scallop-bed shells, and watch for boat traffic at the ramp.
