Emerson Point Preserve Fishing

6.6· Backwater · West Bradenton, FL

Free: No entrance fee listed for the preserve (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Emerson Point Preserve covers the western end of Snead Island near Palmetto, where the Manatee River meets Tampa Bay and Terra Ceia Bay. Manatee County lists fishing access here and points anglers to small docks along the walking trails, like this one over a cove of Terra Ceia Bay. The mangrove edges, oyster bars and grass flats hold spotted seatrout, redfish and snook, with sheepshead and black drum in winter and mangrove snapper and ladyfish in summer. The incoming tide on a calm morning is the time to be here. The preserve is open sunrise to sunset with no entry fee listed, and has parking, restrooms and trails; its larger dock on the river has been closed since hurricane damage. Expect muddy, uneven paths, mosquitoes and summer lightning, and leave the cast net at home.
