Palma Sola Causeway Fishing

6.2· Pier · Cortez, FL

Palma Sola Causeway carries Manatee Avenue West (SR 64) across Palma Sola Bay toward Anna Maria Island, and Manatee County's Palma Sola Causeway Park along it has a small wooden fishing pier on the north side. The pier puts you over shallow grass flats where spotted seatrout and redfish feed, with snook along the edges in the warm months, ladyfish and jacks chasing bait, and sheepshead and black drum in the cooler season. Fish a moving tide, especially the incoming, with live shrimp under a cork or a soft plastic. The park is open sunrise to sunset. County rules allow fishing only in designated areas and never where people swim, and wading only in designated places, so fish from the pier, not the beach. The state has found Palma Sola Bay fails its bacteria standards, so check water-quality results before you go.
