Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Jonathan Dickinson State Park, the largest state park in Southeast Florida, lets anglers fish the banks of the Loxahatchee River, a dark-water river that turns brackish as it nears the picnic area and boat ramp. Here the park says fishing shifts to saltwater: snook and mangrove snapper are the main targets, with jacks, juvenile tarpon and sheepshead around structure, while largemouth bass live upriver and some species overlap. Moving water on either tide is best, and a dry spell brings saltier, clearer water. The park opens from 8 a.m. to sunset, charges a vehicle entry fee, and has accessible restrooms, a picnic area with grills and a paddle launch by the river. Watch for boats at the ramp, alligators along the banks and afternoon lightning in summer.
