Indian Key Fill Fishing

6.3· Bridge · Monroe County, FL

Indian Key Fill is the causeway at about mile marker 78 in Islamorada between the Tea Table and Indian Key Channel bridges, with Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key just offshore. There is no separate fishing bridge here, and the US-1 bridges have no catwalk, so anglers fish from the fill's rocky shoreline beside the bridge ends. Strong current through the channels brings barracuda, jacks, ladyfish, mangrove snapper and, on spring nights, tarpon, which Islamorada's channels are famous for, while snook lurk in the shadow lines. Fish the moving tide at dawn or dusk. Roadside parking is informal, and the small public launch on the fill is listed as temporarily closed for repairs; traffic on US-1, slippery rocks and fast water are the hazards.
