Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle plus per-person surcharge (checked Sep 27, 2026)

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, at mile marker 102.5 in Key Largo, is famous for its reefs, but its land base on Largo Sound also has three shore areas where fishing is allowed. The park map shows them at the low rock jetty at the south end of the Cannon Beach swimming area, on the spit north of Far Beach and at The Point across from the campground entrance, and the rangers give directions. In this shallow, sheltered sound expect mangrove snapper, barracuda, jacks and snook, with the odd small tarpon in summer. Moving water early and late in the park's day fishes best; tides come twice a day. Entry is $8 per vehicle plus 50 cents per person, and the park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Stay out of the swimming areas, keep clear of crocodiles and manatees, and mind the heat.
