Tavernier Creek Bridge, Tavernier Fishing

5.8· Bridge· Islamorada, Village of Islands, FL

Tavernier Creek Bridge carries the Overseas Highway at about mile marker 91 over the creek that links the Atlantic side of Plantation Key with Florida Bay, beside Tavernier Creek Marina. Land-based anglers fish from the shore and under and beside the span for mangrove snapper and tarpon, and a Keys bridge guide calls it a nice spot to fish from land, best in April and May. The marina's bait and tackle shop is close by for live shrimp. Fish the moving tide on light to medium spinning gear and keep your weight ready for the current. Parking nearby is tight, so find a legal space rather than stopping on the shoulder. Watch the traffic and boat wakes in the creek.
