Snake Creek Bridge, Islamorada Fishing

5.1· Bridge· Islamorada, Village of Islands, FL

Snake Creek is the tidal channel under the Overseas Highway drawbridge between Plantation Key and Windley Key at about mile marker 86, the last working drawbridge in the Keys. Fishing and tide sites list it for snook, tarpon, jacks, mangrove snapper and seatrout, and a Keys fishing roundup names it with Tavernier Creek as one of the first bridges south of Key Largo to fish from land. The channel runs hard on the tide, so fish the slack and the early flow with live shrimp or pilchards. Public access is informal and parking is limited, and one bridge guide advises against making it your main spot, so go with modest expectations and read any posted signs. Watch traffic, boats and the drawbridge schedule.
