The Emerald Promenade Beachwalk is Okaloosa County's Beach Access 7, the westernmost of the seven numbered public accesses along Santa Rosa Boulevard on Okaloosa Island, about two miles west of the Okaloosa Island Pier. A zigzag boardwalk crosses the dunes to a wide white beach where surf anglers set sand spikes for pompano and Gulf whiting in spring and fall, then switch to spoons for Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish when bait crowds the bar in summer. Redfish and black drum take over as the water cools. The tide is small, usually one high and one low a day, so the first and last hours of daylight matter more than the tide table. The county lot has 37 spaces, restrooms, a pavilion and a grill. County code bans shark fishing, chumming and blood-baiting from its beaches, and rip currents are the main hazard.
