Sound Park, Fort Walton Beach Fishing

6.0· Pier · Cinco Bayou, FL

Sound Park is a small, natural City of Fort Walton Beach park on Miracle Strip Parkway (US 98), between Liza Jackson Park and the downtown Landing, where a boardwalk leads to a short T-shaped fishing pier over Santa Rosa Sound. Smaller and more natural than the city's bigger waterfront parks, it holds speckled trout, redfish and flounder over grass and sand, sheepshead around the pilings from late winter into spring, white trout when the water cools, and ladyfish and Spanish mackerel in summer when bait works up the sound. A live shrimp under a cork or a small jig on a moving tide, at either end of the day, is the approach. Hours run from sunrise to 9 p.m.; there are picnic tables and benches, but no restrooms are listed. Mind the summer lightning, and the US 98 traffic when you park.
