Bay Park on Sand Key Fishing

Bay Park on Sand Key is a small City of Clearwater park on the bay side of Sand Key, with free parking and a short stretch of beach on Clearwater Harbor, the Intracoastal Waterway between Sand Key and the mainland. It is a quiet alternative to the busy Gulf beaches: cast from the sand over the grass for spotted seatrout, redfish and snook, with sheepshead and black drum in the cooler months and ladyfish, jacks and mangrove snapper in summer. Fish a moving tide with live shrimp under a popping cork or a soft plastic on a light jig head. The park is open sunrise to sunset, and city rules allow fishing unless signs say otherwise. Fish from the public beach rather than the neighboring docks, watch for stingrays in the shallows and leave when summer storms build.
