Maximo Park Fishing

6.7· Beach · Gulfport, FL

Maximo Park is a 70-acre City of St. Petersburg park at the southern end of the peninsula, where Boca Ciega Bay meets lower Tampa Bay, and the city lists shoreline fishing among its features alongside Maximo Beach, seven boat ramps, restrooms and picnic shelters. The water here moves: tide running between the two bays pulls bait along the shore, bringing snook, redfish and spotted seatrout onto the grass edges, sheepshead and black drum to the hard edges and structure along the shore in the cooler months, and Spanish mackerel and ladyfish in spring and fall. Tides are small and mixed, two uneven highs and lows most days; fish either side of a change. The park is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. A city notice after the 2024 hurricanes listed its observation tower and some boat ramps as closed until further notice.
