George R. Kennedy Memorial Park, Edgewater Fishing
5.7· Pier· Edgewater, FL
George R. Kennedy Memorial Park is Edgewater's main public doorway to the Indian River Lagoon, a city park across from City Hall with four boat ramps, a fishing pier with a gazebo, a pavilion, picnic tables and nature trails. It sits on the northern reach of Mosquito Lagoon, where the shallow grass and shell flats hold spotted seatrout, redfish, black drum and sheepshead. Anglers fish from the pier and the seawall edge with live shrimp and light tackle, and the ramps bring boat traffic early. The pier and seawall took storm damage and went through repair projects, so what is open can change; check posted signs before you walk out. The lagoon moves little with the tide, so wind and light decide the day. Watch boat wakes and summer lightning.
