Sunrise Park, Oak Hill Fishing

6.0· Pier· Oak Hill, FL

Sunrise Park, also called Jimmie Vann Sunrise Park, sits on River Road in Oak Hill where the Intracoastal Waterway runs into the south end of Mosquito Lagoon, one of Florida's best-known redfish and seatrout waters. Mapped piers reach into the water near the park, and visitors describe launching kayaks and netting shrimp, pinfish and mullet from the shore. Fish live shrimp or cut bait for redfish, trout, black drum and sheepshead, with ladyfish, jacks and mullet filling in around them. The lagoon here moves little with the tide, so wind and light matter more than the clock. Be patient, since this is a modest neighborhood spot, not a famous pier. Boat wakes, mosquitoes and summer lightning are the main nuisances.
