Fee to fish: State park per-vehicle entrance fee, plus a boat launch fee (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Ochlockonee River State Park, near Sopchoppy, sits where the Dead River meets the tidal Ochlockonee upriver from Ochlockonee Bay, and its brackish water gives shore anglers a mixed bag. The park says redfish and speckled trout are common in the brackish and salt water, and you fish for them from the river shoreline by the main picnic area or from a floating dock on the Dead River. Expect freshwater bass, bream and catfish too; salt fish push farther up when the river runs low and in the cooler months, while heavy rain sends them back toward the bay. Live shrimp under a cork or on the bottom is the simple approach. The tide follows Ochlockonee Bay, usually two uneven highs and lows a day, and the current matters more than the height. There is a $4 vehicle fee, paved paths, restrooms and a fish-cleaning station. Watch for boat traffic, alligators and summer lightning.
