Alaqua Creek Park, Freeport Fishing

6.1· Pier· Freeport, FL

Alaqua Creek Park is a small Walton County park on the north side of the State Road 20 bridge over Alaqua Creek, a few miles west of Freeport. A wood fishing dock reaches out along the creek beside the boat ramp. Below the bridge the creek is deep, wide and slow as it rolls toward Choctawhatchee Bay, so the water is brackish and the catch shifts with rain: redfish, speckled trout and flounder come in with salt, while bream and bass hold higher up. Local fishing reports have called out good redfish and trout bites at Alaqua and great flounder catches along the bridge. Fish live shrimp or soft plastics on a moving tide. The park has a picnic area, a pavilion and a portable toilet, with room for ten to fifteen vehicles and no fee. Watch the highway traffic.
