Thomas Pilcher Park Fishing

7.3· Pier · Walton County, FL

Free: Free entry to this county park (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Thomas Pilcher Park sits under the US 331 Clyde B. Wells Bridge on the south shore of Choctawhatchee Bay, a free Walton County park opened in 2017 with a 380-foot fishing pier, three fishing platforms, four boat ramps and plenty of parking, open around the clock. The pier reaches the deeper water and bridge pilings where speckled trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead and black drum feed, with white trout in the cooler months and ladyfish and jacks in summer. Fish the pilings and the bridge's shade line on a moving tide, live shrimp under a cork around the pilings on summer nights, and fiddler crabs for sheepshead in spring. There are restrooms, picnic shelters and fish cleaning stations. The main hazards are lightning, boat traffic around the ramps and the causeway road; keep kids back from the edge.
