Choctaw Beach Wayside Park Fishing

6.0· Beach· Walton County, FL

Choctaw Beach Wayside Park is a free Walton County bayfront park on the north shore of Choctawhatchee Bay, on the south side of State Highway 20 near Freeport. The county rebuilt the ramp, parking and restrooms, and the park has a boardwalk with seating, picnic pavilions and a small playground. The shoreline here is brackish bay water, so trout, redfish, flounder and sheepshead are the realistic catches, and rain and wind change them. Anglers walk the boardwalk and the sand and fish live shrimp or soft plastics on a moving tide. Parking holds about twenty to twenty-five vehicles. The county does not list fishing here, so read the signs. Keep clear of the launch lane and of swimmers, and watch for highway traffic.
