Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Fishing

6.6· Beach · Walton County, FL

Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle, less on foot or by bike (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park guards 3.2 miles of secluded Gulf beach and 25-foot dunes at the west end of South Walton, and its empty surf is some of the least pressured on the Emerald Coast. Pompano, Gulf whiting and redfish work the troughs in spring and fall, while Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish follow the bait in summer. Fish a double-drop rig with sand fleas or shrimp on a moving tide and clean green water, and walk until you find a clear trough. The beach is 0.8 miles from the parking area by the park tram, on foot or by bike, and the park is open 8 a.m. to sundown. There are no lifeguards; watch for rip currents, stingrays and summer lightning, and remember that Walton County bans shark fishing, chumming and bloodbaiting from its beaches.
