Buccaneer State Park Fishing
5.9· Beach· Waveland, MS
Fees vary: The state park charges admission; the beach across South Beach Boulevard is a public beach (checked Oct 17, 2026)
Buccaneer State Park sits on the Waveland shore between Waveland and Clermont Harbor, with beachfront campsites, a waterpark and a nature trail, and the public sand beach of the Mississippi Sound right across South Beach Boulevard. It is a wade-fishing spot: on calm mornings anglers walk out on the shallow, sandy bottom for speckled trout and redfish, and the marshes and bayous around the park add flounder, black drum and sheepshead. Live shrimp under a popping cork, a soft plastic or a gold spoon all work, best on a moving tide with light wind. The water is shallow and brackish and often murky after a south wind or heavy rain. Shuffle your feet for stingrays, keep clear of swimmers and leave the water at the first thunder.
