Lakeshore Beach is the strip of public sand along Beach Boulevard at the western end of the Hancock County shore, just north of Bayou Caddy and the casino at its mouth. It has beach-side parking and a pavilion with tables, and it faces the shallow Mississippi Sound where the marshes of western Hancock County begin. Anglers wade here or work the beach and the bayou mouth by kayak for speckled trout and redfish, with flounder, Gulf kingfish and catfish over the sand. Live shrimp under a cork, a soft plastic or a spoon on a moving tide and a light wind is the usual approach. The water is brackish, often murky, and freshens after rain on the Pearl River. Shuffle for stingrays, keep clear of boats at the bayou mouth and read any posted signs.
