Hiller Park, Biloxi Fishing
5.5· Backwater· Biloxi, MS
Hiller Park is Biloxi's largest city park, and at its north edge, off Atkinson Road, a public boat launch sits on Bayou La Porte, a tidal bayou that runs out to the Back Bay. The city rebuilt the launch in 2022 with a new concrete ramp, a retaining wall, finger piers on both sides and two short side piers, and the launch is a known shore-fishing stop where anglers use the side piers when no boats need them. It is small, sheltered, brackish water, best for speckled trout, redfish and flounder that follow bait up the bayou, plus sheepshead and black drum around the pilings and plenty of catfish. Fish a cork and shrimp or a small jig, and give way to every boat. The tide is small, so wind and rain decide how salty and clear the bayou runs. Expect mosquitoes and summer storms.
