Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion Fishing
6.4· Beach· Gulf Shores, AL
Free: Free to surf fish; all-day fee in the pavilion's pay lot (checked Oct 17, 2026)
The Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion sits at the eastern end of the state park's 3.5 miles of Gulf beach in Gulf Shores, and surf fishing is one of the popular things to do here. The sand is natural and uncrowded, backed by dunes and sea oats, with a big pay lot, a boardwalk and beach mat to the water, and air-conditioned restrooms with private showers. Pompano and Gulf kingfish are the bread-and-butter catch on shrimp and sand fleas in spring and fall, with redfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel when bait moves along the bar in the warm months. The lot opens at 7 a.m. and closes at sunset, so this is a daytime spot, best in the early morning on a calm, clear sea. Watch for rip currents and summer lightning, and give swimmers plenty of room.
