Cotton Bayou Beach Access Fishing
6.4· Beach· Orange Beach, AL
Free: Free to fish; Gulf State Park daily parking fee (checked Oct 17, 2026)
Cotton Bayou Beach Access is a Gulf State Park beach access in the middle of the Orange Beach strip, near where Highway 161 meets the beach road, and despite the name it fronts the open Gulf, not the bayou across the street. Surf anglers know it as a calmer, less crowded stretch where a redfish or a speckled trout is a real chance without fighting for elbow room. Pompano and Gulf kingfish are the bread-and-butter catch in spring and fall, with croaker and Spanish mackerel through the warm months. Fish the near trough at first light, before the swimmers arrive. The access has restrooms, outdoor showers and an accessible boardwalk to the sand, and the state park charges a daily parking fee. Rip currents and summer lightning are the main hazards.
