Ponce de Leon Park, Punta Gorda Fishing

5.9· Pier · Punta Gorda, FL

Free: No entrance fee; free parking by the boat ramp (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Ponce de Leon Park sits at the western tip of Punta Gorda where the Peace River opens into Charlotte Harbor, a 16-acre city park with a boat ramp, a sandy sunset beach, mangroves and a fishing pier beside the ramp. The ramp-side pier is open, but the observation-deck fishing pier and the mangrove walking paths remain closed until further notice. It is a relaxed harbor-mouth spot for redfish, spotted seatrout, snook and sheepshead, with mangrove snapper and jacks in the warm months. Fish moving water, especially the falling tide, and cast along the grass and mangrove edges. The park is open sunrise to sunset, parking is free, and the city lists restrooms, pavilions and grills. Watch for boats using the ramp and afternoon lightning in summer.
