Allapatchee Shores Park Fishing

5.7· Backwater · Punta Gorda, FL

Allapatchee Shores Park is a small Charlotte County park on Hickory Court in the Acline area south of Punta Gorda, where a launch opens onto upper Alligator Creek, a tidal creek that winds west to Charlotte Harbor. A local tackle shop's spot list has called the upper creek good snook water, and the same water holds redfish, mangrove snapper, jacks and juvenile tarpon in the warm months, with sheepshead and seatrout in the cooler months. Fish from the bank near the launch with live shrimp or small pinfish on moving water, casting to the edges and the deeper bends, or bring a kayak to reach more of the creek on the county's beginner paddling trail. The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and has picnic tables but no restrooms listed. Bring bug spray and watch for alligators.
