Fort Island Trail Park Fishing

6.8· Pier · Crystal River, FL

Free: No fee to fish the pier; boat ramp has a launch fee (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Fort Island Trail Park is a Citrus County riverfront park on the lower Crystal River, off West Fort Island Trail, with a fishing pier, a boat ramp and picnic grounds. The pier runs parallel to the shore about 80 feet out, 150 feet long with a shade structure, so you fish the river's tidal edge rather than open Gulf. Spotted seatrout, redfish and sheepshead are the staples, with snook, mangrove snapper, jacks and the odd tarpon rolling past in summer. Live shrimp on a jighead or under a cork catches most of them. Fish the moving tide, because slack water here is slow. Restrooms and picnic tables are on site and the ramp charges a launch fee. Mind boat wakes, summer lightning and the manatees that use the river all year.
