Mason Creek (Homosassa) Fishing

5.6· Backwater · Citrus County, FL

Free: No launch fee at this Citrus County ramp (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Mason Creek is a small tidal creek on the south side of Homosassa that runs out into Homosassa Bay, and its free Citrus County boat ramp is one of the few public places to fish the Homosassa River estuary from the shore. Anglers wade or cast from the bank around the ramp for spotted seatrout, redfish and sheepshead, with snook, mangrove snapper and jacks in the warm months and black drum in winter. Live shrimp on a light jighead or under a cork is the local standby. Fish the moving tide, since the creek and nearby flats get very shallow at low water. The FWC lists no restrooms or dock, just the ramp and its parking, and boats launching come first. Watch for oysters, boat traffic, manatees, stingrays and summer lightning.
