South Marco Beach Fishing

6.0· Beach · Marco Island, FL

Free: No entry fee; parking fee unless you hold a county beach permit (checked Sep 27, 2026)

South Marco Beach is the public stretch of Gulf sand near the south end of Marco Island, reached from Collier County's South Marco Beach Access, with parking and restrooms on Swallow Avenue just across South Collier Boulevard. Families come here to swim, so anglers turn up at the 8 a.m. opening or late in the day. The trough gives up snook in summer and pompano and whiting from late fall into spring, and Spanish mackerel, jacks and ladyfish appear whenever bait moves along the shore. Marco Island's code names fishing from the beach as a permitted activity but forbids collecting crustaceans there, so bring your bait. Parking carries a fee unless you hold a Collier County beach permit, and dogs are not allowed. Stingrays, rip currents on windy days and summer lightning are the hazards.
