Bayview Park, Bayou Texar Fishing

5.9· Backwater· Pensacola, FL

Bayview Park is a City of Pensacola waterfront park on Bayou Texar, a brackish tidal bayou running about three and a half miles up from Pensacola Bay. The city lists a pier, boat launch, docks and boardwalk, plus a playground, tennis courts, dog park and walking paths, and the park is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Local writeups name redfish, speckled trout and mullet in the bayou, so this is a spot for light spinning gear and live shrimp, fished from the pier, docks or shoreline when the tide is moving. Expect sheepshead around the pilings in cooler months and catfish, croaker and pinfish when the water warms. Boat traffic at the ramp, summer lightning and possible ramp fees are the practical things to plan for.
