Old Bob Sikes Bridge, Gulf Breeze Fishing

5.9· Pier· Gulf Breeze, FL

The old Bob Sikes Bridge once carried traffic from Gulf Breeze to Pensacola Beach and now stands beside the newer span as a fishing pier. Its northern stub reaches into Santa Rosa Sound from the Gulf Breeze shore, a short drive from the longer Pensacola Beach end that Escambia County manages. Anglers here work the pilings and the edge of the channel for sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, speckled trout and the odd redfish, and drop small baits for pinfish. Live shrimp and cut bait on light tackle do most of the work, and a cast net helps when bait runs short. Wind, boat wakes and a strong tide through the bridge make the water busy, so keep lines tight and watch the traffic on the road beside the pier. Rules and hours at this end are not published that we could find; read the posted signs.
