Hurricane Sally badly damaged the bridge in 2020; Escambia County began a full replacement in December 2025 and expects it complete by summer 2027.

The Pensacola Bay Fishing Bridge is the surviving stretch of the old Pensacola Bay Bridge, a drive-on fishing pier reaching out into the bay from downtown Pensacola that let anglers park right beside their rods over deep bay water. Hurricane Sally wrecked the structure in 2020, and Escambia County, which runs the bridge, has kept it closed ever since while planning a full replacement; a $22 million rebuild began construction in December 2025 and the county expects it complete by summer 2027. In its working years the bridge was known for redfish, sheepshead and Spanish mackerel worked from its deep-water railings, plus black drum and flounder on the bottom. Until it reopens, anglers fish Plaza de Luna downtown, Bob Sikes Fishing Pier on the way to Pensacola Beach and Mariners Landing across the bay in Gulf Breeze.
