Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle, less on foot or by bike (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Big Lagoon State Park stretches along the north shore of Big Lagoon, the stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway between Pensacola Bay and Perdido Bay, west of Pensacola on Gulf Beach Highway. Its sandy beaches and grass beds give wade and bank anglers speckled trout, redfish and flounder most of the year, with sheepshead in late winter, bluefish in spring and fall, Spanish mackerel and ladyfish in summer and white trout in the cooler months. Fish the grass edges on a moving tide with a popping cork or a soft plastic; the park map shows fishing at West Beach and East Beach. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sunset, with a vehicle entrance fee. Watch for boat wakes on the waterway, swimmers in the marked areas, stingrays on the sand flats, lightning and summer heat.
