Herschel King Park Fishing

Herschel King Park is a 20-acre Flagler County park on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Coast, with a fishing pier, a boat launch, a shaded walking trail and a playground. The pier reaches out over the waterway, where redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum and flounder feed along the edges, sheepshead gather on the pilings in winter and mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish show up in summer. Fish live or fresh shrimp on the bottom or under a popping cork, and time it for moving water: the tide is small this far from an inlet, but it still turns twice a day. The park has restrooms and a picnic pavilion you can rent, and it is open from dawn to 11 p.m. Keep clear of boats at the launch, and leave when summer storms build.
