Old Salt Park, Palm Coast Fishing
6.5· Beach· Marineland, FL
Old Salt Park is a Flagler County beachfront park on the Atlantic at the south end of the Hammock, where coquina rock outcrops break up the sand and give the surf a rougher, more fish-holding shoreline than the plain beaches nearby. The county lists fishing among the park's features, and the water here is typical northeast Florida surf: whiting and bluefish in the troughs, redfish and black drum on bigger baits, and pompano or Spanish mackerel when the water is warm and clean. Fish a rising tide with fresh shrimp or cut bait on a pyramid-weight rig, and keep a lure rod for blitzes. The park has a lot, restrooms and an outdoor shower, and is open dawn to 11 p.m. Watch the rocks, which are sharp and slick, and rip currents.
