Highland View Park and Boat Ramp Fishing

6.9· Backwater · Port St. Joe, FL

Free: No fee; open around the clock (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Highland View Park and Boat Ramp is a small Gulf County park on the Highland View bank of the Gulf County Canal, right beside the George G. Tapper Bridge that carries US 98 over the canal, where the canal opens into St. Joseph Bay. It has a boat ramp with a fixed dock, picnic tables and restrooms, and the FWC lists it as open around the clock with no fee. Anglers wade the sand bars and fish the current under the bridge for speckled trout and redfish most of the year, with flounder, pompano and ladyfish in the warm months and tarpon rolling in late summer. Fish the incoming tide into dusk with a soft plastic on a light jighead or live shrimp. Expect company on summer evenings, and watch for boat traffic in the canal and lightning.
