Aripeka Bridge, Aripeka Fishing
5.4· Bridge· Hernando County, FL
Aripeka Bridge carries Osowaw Boulevard over Hammock Creek, a small tidal creek that runs out to the Gulf in the old fishing village of Aripeka, where Hernando County meets Pasco. Locals and visitors fish from the bridge, and Norfleet's Fish Camp, a store and boat ramp, sits at its foot. The creek is brackish and shallow, with mangrove edges and oyster bars, so the catch is redfish, spotted seatrout and sheepshead, with mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish in the warm months and the odd snook. Fish a moving tide with live shrimp or small soft plastics along the pilings and the creek edges. The county does not list fishing at the bridge itself, so read the posted signs, park only in legal spots and keep well clear of traffic on the narrow roadway.
