Mary's Fish Camp Seawall, Bayport Fishing
6.3· Seawall· Hernando County, FL
Mary's Fish Camp is a family-run fish camp, open since 1946, on the Mud River near Bayport, a short tidal run from the Gulf on Hernando County's Nature Coast. Its best-known feature for shore anglers is a 275-foot seawall, with a boardwalk and pier beside it. The water is brackish and shifts with the tide and with rain, so the catch changes: mullet are the camp's best-known catch, with mangrove snapper, snook, redfish, seatrout and sheepshead possible on the right tide and season. Live shrimp on a light rig is the staple, and the camp store sells supplies. A tourism listing shows daily hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a free parking lot, but the day fee for walk-up anglers is not published, so call ahead. Watch for summer lightning, slippery boards and boat wakes.
