Rogers Park, Weeki Wachee Fishing
5.9· Backwater· Hernando County, FL
Rogers Park is a three-acre Hernando County park where Shoal Line Boulevard crosses the lower Weeki Wachee River, a few miles above the Gulf. The county lists fishing among its activities, alongside a swimming area, a boat ramp, a canoe launch and restrooms, and it stays open around the clock. This is the tidal end of a spring-fed river, so the water is clear and the catch is a mix of inshore fish: redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum and snook, with sheepshead and mangrove snapper around the bridge and dock pilings. Fish the river bank away from the swim beach with live shrimp or small baits on light spinning gear, and favor a moving tide. Parking carries a fee. Watch for paddlers, boat traffic at the ramp, summer lightning and, in winter, manatees upstream.
