Alison Hagerup Beach Park, also called Captiva Beach, is the public Gulf beach where the road ends on Captiva Island, a narrow barrier island whose beach was widened again by a renourishment project that had finished placing sand by January 2026. It is a surf-fishing spot first thing in the morning, before the sunbathers arrive: snook patrol the trough in summer, pompano and whiting feed along the bars from fall to spring, and Spanish mackerel, jacks and ladyfish chase bait on the migrations, with blacktip sharks and the odd redfish. Fish a rising tide with sand fleas, shrimp or small jigs. Parking is in a paid lot run by the Captiva Erosion Prevention District, open from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, and poles must be attended at all times. No dogs are allowed on Captiva beaches.
