Peck Lake Park is a 70-acre Martin County preserve in Hobe Sound where a trail, mostly boardwalk, runs just under a mile through pine flatwoods, hammock and mangrove forest to a large deck and covered pavilion on the Indian River Lagoon. The county lists fishing here, and the deck, with stairs down to the lagoon shore, looks across the water to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Expect snook, spotted seatrout, redfish, jacks and mangrove snapper through the warm months, with sheepshead and black drum in winter. Tides are small this far from the inlets, so fish the moving water early and late. The park has covered picnic areas and accessible restrooms, but you must carry everything out to the deck. Watch for summer lightning and bring insect repellent.
