Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge Beach Fishing

6.3· Beach · Jupiter Island, FL

Fee to fish: Daily vehicle pass fee; waived with a Duck Stamp or Interagency Pass (checked Sep 27, 2026)

The beach unit of the Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge sits at the end of North Beach Road on Jupiter Island, and from its parking lot an undeveloped beach runs north toward the St. Lucie Inlet. It is a quiet, wild place to surf fish: pompano, whiting and bluefish in the cooler months, Spanish mackerel on clear days, and snook, jacks and redfish close in during summer and the fall mullet run. The beach drops off steeply, so fish hold close to shore; a rising tide is usually best. There is a daily vehicle pass, portable toilets and no lifeguards, and the refuge is open only from sunrise to sunset. Only rod-and-reel fishing is allowed, pets are not, and sea turtles nest here through the warm months.
