Caladesi Island State Park Fishing

Fees vary: Free on foot; boaters pay a per-boat fee (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Caladesi Island State Park is a barrier island between Honeymoon Island and Clearwater Beach with a long natural Gulf beach on one side and the calmer water of St. Joseph Sound on the other. Most visitors arrive on the passenger ferry from Honeymoon Island, which returned in July 2025 after the 2024 hurricanes, and stays are limited to about four hours. Surf anglers walk the beach for snook in summer and pompano and whiting in spring and fall, with Spanish mackerel and ladyfish when bait runs close, while the sound side holds redfish and spotted seatrout. Fish a moving tide with live shrimp, sand fleas or small jigs, and travel light. The park allows fishing only in designated areas, so follow the signs and stay clear of swimmers. The island has restrooms, a shower station and a concession, though food service may be limited. Watch for stingrays, rip currents and summer lightning.
