Honeymoon Island Causeway Bridge Fishing

6.2· Bridge· Dunedin, FL

The last bridge on the Dunedin Causeway before the Honeymoon Island State Park gate carries SR 586 over a tidal gap between St. Joseph Sound and the grass flats behind the island. Current funnels bait and game fish through the opening, and anglers fish both the east and west sides from the approaches and the shoulder below the roadway. Expect seatrout, redfish, snook in warm months, sheepshead on the pilings, jacks and ladyfish on the moving tide, plus mangrove snapper and flounder around the structure. Bring a light jig rod and live shrimp. It is a roadside spot with no facilities of its own, so park only where the shoulder is wide and legal and pay close attention to traffic. The causeway is open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
