Crystal Beach Pier Fishing

6.6· Pier· Palm Harbor, FL

Crystal Beach Pier is a long wooden pier reaching out from the small public beach at the end of Ohio Avenue in the Crystal Beach community of Palm Harbor, over the shallow grass flats of St. Joseph Sound. It is a quiet, old-Florida pier, fished by locals for seatrout, sheepshead, redfish, ladyfish and Spanish mackerel when the water is right. The long walk out puts you over deeper edges than you can reach from shore. Fish with live shrimp under a float or a light jig on the moving tide, and fish the early or late hours. A travel guide lists the pier as free and open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. with parking near the beach. Watch for summer lightning and slick boards.
