Pop Stansell Park Fishing

6.1· Pier · Palm Harbor, FL

Pop Stansell Park is a small waterfront park on Sutherland Bayou in Palm Harbor, operated by Palm Harbor Parks & Recreation, with a fishing pier, a launch for kayaks and other non-motorized boats, picnic pavilions and a covered band shell. The bayou is shallow and sheltered and opens out into St. Joseph Sound; from the pier you can reach redfish, spotted seatrout and snook, sheepshead and black drum around the pilings when the water is cool, and mangrove snapper and ladyfish through the summer. Work the upper half of a moving tide, using live shrimp under a cork, a small soft plastic, or fiddler crabs on the bottom. Restrooms and a playground are on site. Leave paddlers at the launch plenty of room, and head in when summer lightning builds.
