Fort De Soto Bay Pier Fishing

6.9· Pier · Tierra Verde, FL

The Bay Pier is Fort De Soto Park's quieter, bay-side pier, about 500 feet long, looking across the mouth of Tampa Bay toward the Skyway and Egmont Key. The water is calmer and shallower than at the Gulf Pier, with grass, sand and a channel edge that suit sheepshead, mangrove snapper, redfish, trout and black drum, plus mackerel and snook in the warm months. Fish the moving tide, especially the incoming, from the 7 a.m. opening until sunset. The far end of the pier is closed for hurricane repairs, which the county expects to resume once the park's boat ramp work finishes in late 2026, so fish the open landward section. It is a short, level walk from parking and good for children. Watch for summer lightning and the ferry landing beside the pier.
