Fort De Soto North Beach Fishing

7.6· Beach · Tierra Verde, FL

Free: No fee to fish; parking is paid (checked Sep 27, 2026)

North Beach is Fort De Soto's long Gulf beach on Mullet Key, a wide run of white sand in a park 'Dr. Beach' has ranked among the nation's best. Its northern stretch, by the swim center and picnic shelters, is a buoyed swim zone where county code bans fishing, so surf anglers use the southern lot and fish the sand south of the buoys, casting from the beach because the code allows wading only in swim areas. Snook patrol the first trough in summer, pompano and Gulf kingfish feed on the bars in spring and fall, and Spanish mackerel and ladyfish follow the bait. Tides are small and mixed, with two uneven highs and lows most days; fish the moving water early and late. The park is open 7 a.m. to sunset, parking is paid and a license is required throughout. Keep out of the posted shorebird habitat.
