Fort De Soto Gulf Pier Fishing

7.6· Pier · Tierra Verde, FL

The Gulf Pier at Fort De Soto Park runs about 1,000 feet into the mouth of Tampa Bay off Mullet Key, where Gulf and bay water mix over deep channels. It is one of the best family piers in the region: Spanish mackerel and the odd kingfish in spring and fall, mangrove snapper, snook and grouper around the pilings in summer, and sheepshead and pompano in the cooler months. Fish a moving tide in clean green water. It opens at 7 a.m. and closes at sunset with the park, so it is a daytime pier. The park's food and bait concession is at the foot of the pier. The concrete deck is level and close to parking, but the end catches strong current and summer lightning. Parking rates change on December 1, 2026, and the seawall beside the pier is due to be rebuilt from spring 2027.
